Bitching and complimenting

I think in this highly technologized age (That’s so a word, spell-check. Shut up!) we spend too much time focusing on the bad experiences and not enough on the good. When was the last time you received exceptional customer service and told their manager what a great job the employee was doing? You wouldn’t hesitate to bitch about it if the service sucked, right?

Managers like to hear that an employee did their job so well that you left the store still thinking about it. Employees get told by their manager that someone said they had a great day because of them. It’s a win-win situation here. It also makes you feel good when you make that phone call or ask to talk to the manager. They don’t expect compliments. That’s not what they are in the store for. It takes less than a minute to get through to a manager on the phone to say “So and so did an amazing job today and I wanted to let the managers know.” It’s not easy for us to compliment other people unless we’re trying to sleep with them, but it’s truly not hard.

So the next time someone genuinely helps you in a store, or makes you smile when things seem like shit, take a moment to call the store later and tell the manager that they have a good employee. The employee will appreciate knowing what they did wasn’t lost in the ether.

Dream

So I had a dream last night that I was about to get some, but after I got naked I somehow time travelled nude to somewhere. I managed to grab a robe to clothe myself, and find a car.

The rest of the dream was trying to find a place with privacy so I could masturbate, because that was somehow the only way to travel back to my time. Not sure how I knew that, but it made perfect sense in the dream.

Happy birthday

Today I turn 36 years old. That’s about it.

The Dark Knight Rises

The movie plodded along, but ended strongly. Batman was in about a third of it. This is all ill say to avoid spoilers.

The Amazing Spider-man

While a decent movie, I felt a lack of closure. Sally Fields was a terrible Aunt May, and he never caught the guy who killed his uncle.

Summer

Ah, summer. I refuse to take classes in the summer so it is all my own. For May I work a few days (nights!) and go to the Citizen Police Academy Tuesday nights and the rest of my time is my own. Not to shabby. June will get a little more complex, but I’ll deal with that when it comes.

Still trying to meet someone. I think Sea World would be awesome to spend a lot of my free time this summer.

Gay marriage legalization

While I’m not gay, I have no problem with people who are.  Hell, if I have no problem with legalizing marijuana and prostitution, gay marriage should be the last thing I’d be worried about.

That being said (Legalize prostitution!), the only way we’re going to get gay marriage legalized completely in all states through the government is to convince the companies that back the government (You know, the real voters!) that gay marriage is the niche market they’ve been looking for.

Gay couples are not broke, mostly.  If anything they make more money than a male/female household, since they don’t have those pesky unwanted pregnancies bogging them down.  That means they can afford things that make companies money, like nice wedding rings, life insurance, (s)he and (s)he matching cars.

Gay rights are inevitable.  Apparently we can’t go a few years without fucking up someone else’s American dream.  Perhaps America gets off on the whole making some group an outcast until finally they give in and all the politicians come clamoring back to the side of reason shouting how they were secretly all for it the whole time while hiding the burning crosses and effigies.

In fact, now might be the time I start my own religion, and instead of just focusing on legalized prostitution (YES!), branch off into legalized gay marriage.  Someone needs to cater to the fabulous weddings that they will be capable of throwing.  Curtistianity can be that someone.

(To be continued…)

Myself

I am socially awkward. I’ve always known it, but I didn’t want to admit it. I am no good in crowds or with new people. I like meeting new people but I don’t like imposing myself. I do not foresee this changing anytime in the future. Good luck to me.

21st Century

I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s. Like most people from that era, I’m disappointed that we don’t have flying cars and all the other amazing things movies from that time promised us.

However, what I’m really disappointed about is the lack of equality in this country. America, “the greatest country on Earth” feels like it’s taking a backslide back into the 1950’s. I live in Texas, not exactly known for its tolerant attitude, and yet we have some of the best rape laws in the country. Forensic kits are held for two years in case a victim of sexual assault decides later to press charges. The rest of the laws aren’t perfect, but it’s something that a state known for not being LGBTQ friendly still protects survivors.

Now on to my real beef. Since Obama was elected president, the race card has been played on all sides. I’m well aware racism is alive and well in this country, but it feels like it’s becoming even more mainstream now. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, there were 1,018 active hate groups in the US in 2011. Want to see where your state stands? Click to view the hate map! Calfironia leads the US with 84, followed by Georgia with 65, Florida with 55, Texas with 45 and Mississippi with 41. They go down from there. Alaska, Rhode Island and Vermont each have one.

The point I’m trying to make is, this isn’t the country we were promised. Where is the equality? Where is the freedom of religion? Why are all the Republican candidates touting their religious affiliation? I don’t care what God you believe in, as long as you believe in equality.
